Hello,
My name is Mrs. Kelly Jenks. I'm so happy to be teaching 6th grade in my hometown of Fraser! It is a wonderful community with an outstanding school district. I've attended Fraser Public Schools from kindergarten, all the way through 12th grade. People that know me say that I was born to be a teacher. In fact, my kindergarten teacher at Emerson Elementary even told my mom that I was going to be a teacher when I grew up! I also won the "Future Teacher Scholarship" from Fraser High School my senior year! After graduating high school, I went on to attend Macomb Community Collage. I then received a "Transfer Scholarship" to go to Wayne State University (WSU)- where I earned a B.A. degree in Elementary Education/Language Arts. I also attended Oakland University, and received a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Even for adults, It's important to continue to learn, grow, and live up to your full potential! At this point in my career, I have had experience with many different age groups: I have taught preschool for a year, pre-student taught in fourth grade, student taught in second grade, was a long term substitute in first and fifth grade, was a sixth grade Intervention Specialist for year, was an Intervention Specialist for grades K-5 for a year, and this will be my EIGTH YEAR teaching sixth grade at Salk! I love teaching sixth grade because I just feel like we understand each other--> My students tend to get my slightly sarcastic, dramatic, weird sense of humor ;-), and I love each of my students for exactly who they are! My students become part of my family. Their health, happiness, and education are all important to me. I feel extremely lucky to be teaching at Salk Elementary. Salk has some of the best staff, students, and parents around! The staff at Salk truly care about one another, and go out of their way to help each other out...all while not forgetting to have little bit of fun! Everyone strives to be collaborative, reflective, knowledgeable, and kind. One of the things that I love the most about Salk is that no one just sits around and "wishes" for things to happen. They are constantly generating and trying out new ideas that have the potential better our school, and I enjoy being a part of it all! This kind of mentality, I feel, works to create a very positive atmosphere for everyone that walks through the Salk doors. Quick facts: · I married my high school sweetheart, Michael Jenks, in June 2014 · I love crafting and dogs (especially little fuzzy cockapoos) · I did improv at Second City Detroit when it was downtown · I am pretty artsy--> I like customizing shoes, making custom socks/t-shirts/Apple Watch bands/etc, painting, making leather earrings, nail art, and I am pretty good at sculpting things out of clay for some reason · My favorite hero is Batman · My favorite color is pink, and I also love animal print |
